The Newport City Renaissance Corporation (NCRC) was established as a private nonprofit in July 2007; in November 2007, Newport received its Vermont Downtown designation. The NCRC serves as a catalyst for change in the City’s downtown economic and community development; changing the economic structure, design and promotion through active partners in the development of their community. The NCRC is the only organization focused exclusively on Newport City’s economic development.
Newport City Renaissance Corporation provides leadership and volunteer management for resource development, project management, technical assistance and skills which assist volunteers in designing effective programs for economic restructuring, design and promotion.
Over the past 40 years, more than 140 towns and cities around the country have had the honor to participate in a Regional/Urban Design Assistance Team (RUDAT) project - but never one in Vermont.
The Newport RUDAT, titled "Building a New Newport," is a grassroots approach to helping to plan the future of our community, and it is an essential component of any concerted effort to construct a durable and managed approach to the future of our city. The planning alone thus far has been unique in that it has brought together a large cross-section of organizations, businesses and individuals to work together planning this event. Many of these entities have never worked together on a project. Dozens of volunteers meet every week to report on committee plans and generate ideas on how to make this event the best it can be.
