As you browse the farm stand and farmers markets in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom you may likely find yourself in the company of one of the talented chefs of an area restaurant. Throughout the region many restaurants collaborate with area farmers to infuse fresh, locally harvested agricultural offerings, including local produce, grass fed beef, free range chicken and artisan cheeses into their menus. This “farm to table” culinary practice insures a market for the local farmer which will help sustain the farm for future generations. Farm to table practices also allow restaurants the ability to incorporate fresh local foods into their menus creating a one-of-a-kind local dining experience that travelers can only find in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom.
If you are seeking a simple and traditional taste of the Kingdom, and want to enjoy a little local color, we invite you to try one of the country diners, village cafes or family restaurants or you could partake of some real home cooking by attending a church supper, hunters’ breakfast or local bake sale. A quick stop at a country store or village market can also offer you an assortment of specialty items that are just right for a quick snack, picnic plans or a meal on the go.
And while all of these classic country options may be expected in the Kingdom some folks are delighted to find four-star gourmet and fine dining restaurants offering superb food and service tucked away in comfortably restored country landmark buildings or situated in the heart of our historic downtowns. Here, trained chefs from all over the world prepare their best dishes in establishments where the hospitality is considered every bit as important as the food.

The River Garden is fun and upbeat: The food is fantastic, the service is friendly, attentive and professional, and the ambiance is irresistible. The owners are always there, and it seems like they know most diners on a first name basis - sometimes it seems like all of the guests know each other as well. If you like excellent food in great surroundings with music like Dave Brubeck or Ella in the background, then The River Garden Café is for you.
The café's ambiance is one of casual elegance, the quintessential Vermont experience, where diners may be right off the bike or ski trail or on their way to the theater. Our backyard garden paths lead to a footbridge over the river, a great place for a relaxing after-dinner stroll.
The cuisine is New Culinary Age, showcasing the freshest ingredients presented imaginatively in generous proportions by talented chef Travis Chapman. The eclectic menu and our chalkboard of daily specials are sure to entice any palate. We feature local produce in season, and grow our own herbs. We also offer "lighter side" and children's menus.

Pete’s Greens is a four-season organic vegetable farm located in Craftsbury, Vermont owned by Peter Johnson. We grow a vast array of specialty vegetables with an emphasis on baby greens, heirloom tomatoes, and root crops. On our farm, soil fertility is top priority. We cover crop extensively and apply prodigious quantities of compost in order to grow top quality vegetables. We use greenhouses, heated with recycled vegetable oil when necessary, root cellars and other season extension techniques to provide the greatest diversity of vegetables for as much of the year as possible.
We believe strongly in local food production and consumption. Local food is more nutritious, tastes better, and eating it connects us to our place and to the time of year.
In addition to providing an abundance of greens and other produce during the regular growing season, we are focused on offering vegetables throughout the winter, when other local produce is sparse. Our root cellars will keep select farm varieties fresh and flavorful long past the time that new growth in our greenhouses is ready to be harvested in the early spring.
We sell to stores and restaurants throughout Vermont and in Boston and New York City. Recently, we have focused on local sales direct to customers. We attend the summer and winter Montpelier Farmer's Markets and operate a seasonal farmstand. We also have a growing emphasis on our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) called Good Eats, which is the best way for our customers to have direct access to all of our produce.

Alice's Table is named after Alice Lewis who worked at Jay Peak during the Walter Foeger years (1956-1968). She was the front office manager and a tireless worker handling everything from accounting and marketing to budgeting, parking and payroll. She embodied the Jay Peak character in everything she did and even ran a de facto boarding house for Jay Peak workers just across the road from the mountain. On many nights, she’d make dinner and invite those staying with her to join together. In that spirit, we’ve named this restaurant Alice’s Table, and keep one table open, each night, so that folks can gather around, have dinner and share stories. Alice was always a behind the scenes talent and didn’t ever want the light on her. We’re happy to have the opportunity to share her story and welcome you to her Table.
The restaurant is open daily from 7:30am to 10:00am, lunch from 11:00am to 2:00pm and dinner from 5:30pm to 9:30pm. Reservations are strongly suggested for dinner.

Lago Trattoria translates literally from the Italian as 'lake restaurant,' an apt description, as Lago Trattoria is located in Newport, on the shores of international Lake Memphremagog. At first bite, the simple yet tasteful Mediterranean and Italian fare lets diners realize they have transcended the status quo. Opposite the well-stocked bar is an open kitchen in the center of the restaurant--watching Frank at work is all part of the experience.
Frank is committed to using as much Vermont-produced organic food as possible. His dishes (many derive from old family recipes) are true Mediterranean and Italian creations--lighter, fresh-tasting fare offering more flavor variety than the traditional, heavy pasta-and-sauce dishes. The service is second to none and found every night of the week.

The best local foods, prepared simply and thoughtfully. Wines carefully chosen from the word’s best wine producing regions. A relaxed place for sharing good food, good conversation and good times. These are the elements that make a great restaurant.
Fun not fussy. Since when did good food mean fancy food? We believe in bold, simple flavors that start with great raw ingredients. While you wait, express yourself in crayon on our kraft-paper tabletops.
This old mill. Built in 1853 as a water-powered mill... exposed brick, original millworks, copper walls and lighting, ceramic tile and glass block.
